EARN 3 HSW's with Rodger Lippman, SARA Aff. Board Chair

12-1PM - COLOR AND PAINT IN ENVIRONMENTS FOR THE AGING - 1 HSW

This course provides an overview of the changes in color perception because of aging or disease. This course examines the various types of common care environments available for the elderly and features a discussion on the application of low- or no-VOC, durable, high-quality paint, and appropriate color use to facilitate wayfinding.

Learning Objectives: Discuss the growth of the aging population and the common health problems they face specifically as it relates to vision

Recognize the ways these health problems alter or interfere with color perception

Understand the common care environments for the elderly

Describe the ways color can help facilitate the quality of life, navigation, and orientation for the aging population

Summarize how premium, low VOC paint can offer durability and safe application in environments for the aging.

1PM - 2PM PROTECTING YOUR COLOR VISION - 1 HSW

In Protecting Your Color Vision, the key ingredients in paint will be discussed to provide valuable information on what differentiates one paint product from the next, and the benefits of using paints that are produced with advanced technology and premium ingredients. These benefits are illustrated through real-life examples and a case study that demonstrates why choosing premium paint over conventional paint will impact projects in several ways. Likewise, the importance of writing detailed paint schedules is discussed to protect your projects and bring your vision to life in the way it was intended.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the four main ingredients in paint and explain the benefits of high-quality pigments and resins.

Recognize the limitations of color matching due to the differences in ingredients and color prescriptions and how this impacts the appearance of paint applied to a substrate.

Provide examples that illustrate the relationship between material costs and labor costs, and the impact of specifying premium products.

Distinguish between a detailed paint schedule and a paint schedule that leaves room for interpretation and substitutions.

2PM - 3PM SCUFF RESISTANT PAINT (HIGH-TRAFFIC) - 1 HSW

This course will introduce you to another option available for high-traffic commercial environments, scuff-resistant paint. We will explain how it works, how it differs from other coatings developed for high-traffic commercial environments, and how it helps improve all-around performance.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss unique challenges to paint in high-traffic commercial environments.

Describe scuff-resistant paint’s impact on long-term durability.

Examine different characteristics of scuff-resistant paint compared to other coatings.

Evaluate the life-cycle cost of durable scuff-resistant paint compared to other coatings for high-traffic settings.
