Clay brick has a variety of characteristics that contribute to the sustainability of a building project. We will discuss the methods manufacturers employ to produce brick with minimal environmental impact. In this course, several strategies that incorporate clay brick walls and paving and are applicable to green building rating systems are identified including thermal mass, low emittance, rainwater management and others.
Learning Objectives
Identify clay brick manufacturing methods that conserve energy and raw materials.
Review clay brick making practices that minimize the effects of operations on quarries and surrounding communities.
